Winter: with and without snow

There had been a light fall of snow and I drove down to the National Trust property, Kingston Lacy, near Wimborne Minster, Dorset.

Here are some images from my annual visit to the exotic butterflies in the glasshouse at RHS Wisley.  I apologise in advance for any mistakes there might be in identification of species.

Now for a few of the flowers that were in the tropical area of the glasshouse.  I haven't tried to name any.

A Robin appeared to have blagged its way into the glasshouse and was sitting on a sign near the entrance.  It was singing loudly.  I had been using a 100mm 1:1 macro lens with a ring-flash on the end of it.  I moved gradually nearer as I captured each of these three images and s/he was completely unfazed by the proximity of this equipment.

After some lunch I had a walk round the gardens and checked out the alpine house.

Finally, indulge me please and I'll get the last few images of THAT Kingfisher out of my system.  I shall be leaving her alone for some time now.

... and here's a Goldeneye that put in an appearance whilst I was at the lake.
