On The Levels

Last month saw me spending another day on the Somerset Levels.

Early morning:  Shapwick Heath.

Black-headed Gull

Great Crested Grebe

(a parent)

Little Egret

Mute Swan

Water Rail

I spend the morning watching an Osprey through my binoculars.  He was perching closer than his usual tree stump, but too far away for a photograph with a 600mm lens.  He flew away from me to fish.  That was quite spectacular, but no picture for me!  Never once did his flight-pattern bring him nearer.

Lunch at Eco-Friendly Bites at the Avalon Visitor Centre, then ...

... afternoon:  Greylake.

In the car park:

Wood Mouse

I was assembling my tripod and gimbal-head to take into the reserve when this caught my eye.  (The catchlight in its eye caught my attention.)  The location in the car park is one of the bird-tables errected by the RSPB.  I managed one shot and it was gone, to be replaced by ...

Blue Tit

On the reserve:

Large Tortoiseshell
