Late-September at Stourhead

More images from 'my back yard'.  Stourhead is less than 7 miles away and a beautiful location.  Regular readers will know that I visit there a lot.  The images were taken over the course of two visits.

Here are images of The Pantheon ...

... and the Temple of Flora.

A view across part of the main lake (obelisk in distance)

It was quite early in the day when I photographed this Mute Swan.

The cold light of day

Nuthatch:

Boing!

I'm getting them to come to the post without food there (sometimes!).  These next few poses put me in mind of someone in a restaurant seeking the attention of a waiter and, when served, looking around to see what others might have.  (Fieldwork affects the mind, they say.)

One part of this well-loved woodland bird that seems to escape notice is its rump.  People seem either not to see it or to just see a blur.  The gorgeous pattern created by these beautiful little feathers is worthy of a closer look:

Great Tit:

The worm that got away

Ooh! Just look at me

All excited!

Coot:

Lady of the Lake

Chaffinch:

Snooty?

On this visit the young Mute Swan family had still not flown, but flight seemed very much a prospect.

The siblings don't look bothered
