A day out

In February I visited the Hawk Conservancy, near Andover, Hampshire.  It wasn't the first time I had been there and it won't be the last.  It's about an hour's drive from here.

My first images were taken before any of the displays started.

Harris Hawk

African Fish Eagle

Sculpture

Whistling Duck

Then some images from the first flying display.

Siberian Eagle Owl

"Leave the flying to me.  You do the thinking."
"Emu will now ... ..."

(Remember the Rod Hull and Emu show on TV?)

Caracara

Great Grey Owl

Tawny Eagle

A lot of wing to fold away

After this display it was time for lunch.  There is an excellent restaurant that serves bowls of hot soup.  Just the thing on a cold day.

Before the first afternoon display I wandered over to a hide overlooking a field where there might have been a chance of seeing a Short-eared Owl.  There was a horse!

The main feature of the next display was a female Snowy Owl.

These images were acquired over the course of three flights.

(Tercel or Tiercel) Peregrine

I've never yet captured one on the wing.  They go a bit too fast for me!

Black Kite

The final display of the day was in a small wooded area.  Unfortunately the light was fading rapidly.

Ural Owl

Harris Hawk
